Bournville’s Bookfest 2018


A 10-day celebration of storytelling, bringing world famous authors to Birmingham to read from the books and share their writing and illustrating tips with children.

Birmingham Heritage Week Creative Writing Competition, September 2017

The Children’s Library at the Library of Birmingham are running a creative writing competition to coincide with Birmingham Heritage Week September 2017. The Children are encouraged to write a short fictional story (up to 500 words) based on a photograph from the Library’s Archive collection. There are two age categories for submissions.   • The Bournville Children’s Book Festival is now a permanent calendar fixture. Authors Nick Sharratt, Julia Jarman and Lynne Chapman have already signed up.

Big Draw event, Barber Institute of Fine Arts 24th October 2015 (free)

Busy Parents Network Big Draw event in collaboration with the Barber Institute of Fine Arts on Saturday 24th October 2015 from 11am-3pm. James Mayhew, the celebrated author and illustrator of the “Katie” art gallery books will be painting, accompanied by the music of Muggorsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”. We will also be welcoming award winning author, Simon James, and the Annamation storytellers.

Birmingham University’s Community Day

On Sunday 6 September 2015, Birmingham University is having a community day.

Free activities will include bungee-trampoline, build a rocket, face painting, culture trails, create a dinosaur, carousel, mask making, climbing wall, farmers’ market, dig into the past, and much more!*
