The mathematics curriculum at Raddlebarn Primary School reflects the recent major shift in primary mathematics away from pushing children into an increasingly broad curriculum into one which focuses on depth. Our learning is rooted in a triple emphasis on fluency, reasoning and problem solving, through which we seek to develop a depth of understanding.

This means all children will aim to build a deep understanding of concepts so they can apply their skills fluently and flexibly in a variety of familiar and unfamiliar contexts. We seek to achieve this by using mathematical equipment, pictorial representations and placing mathematics in real life contexts wherever possible. Children are challenged to explain their thinking and to convince others why they believe they are correct. We believe this will develop their security and confidence in the subject and is valuable learning for life.
